June Petteys Llama Walk For A Cure

Dakota Ridge Angels

October 7, 2007 at NOON (registration starts at 11:00 am)

Saratoga Spa State Park

JUNE PETTEYS was so strong and regal, just like a llama, showing no pain, just elegance and style. She fought the fight for 7 years, but wouldn't acknowledge the fact that she even had cancer. She would say "cancer, what cancer"?

Mom would be SO proud to know we are doing this for her and for the cure! So, please come join us October 7, 2007, throw something pink on your llama and yourself and help us raise money for something that means a lot to us....

We'll be doing a three mile walkathon with llamas! Bring your own llama and if we have any extras you can borrow one of ours.  You will need to RSVP in advance to the following email: llamawhisp@aol.com to walk a llama, but you don't need a llama to go.  We look forward to seeing you there in pink! Thank you in advance for your support.

Herdsmanship Award

2006 Eastern States Exposition Llama Show, Springfield, MA

* Eastern States Exposition presents an award to one llama herdsman who is voted by the exhibitors to best represent qualities of a good herdsman: ability to interact with animals, public and other

exhibitors, neat and clean display and pen, observance of all rules and regulations and cooperation.

We recently found out that our very own bred and owned "DAKOTA RIDGE TABITHA

T-BIRD STEWART" has earned her ALSA HALTER CHAMPION!!!  She actually surpassed the requirements (with one extra Grand Champion), which are: this award is achieved by winning four Grand Championships or three Grand Championships and two Reserve Grand Championships.  Placements must be obtained before at least three different ALSA judges in a sanctioned show with a minimum of eight entries in the Division.

Congratulations Tabby!!!

In other news...Tabby is also a hero at the farm!  Please read below:

All of the animals at Dakota Ridge Farm are wonderful and amazing. They bring such fun and laughter to our lives, and warm our hearts even when we are having a bad day. It is such an honor to be part of their lives in helping Gary and Katrina with daily chores on the farm.

On one particular evening, when pulling into the DRF driveway, I noticed the animals looking in a particular direction. I looked to see if Katrina was there, they would all watch her if she was out walking around. No one was there except for me. As I got closer, Tabby (one of Katrina’s female llamas) ran to the fence towards me. She normally does this and then starts dancing her happy “I am going to get fed” dance. But instead of dancing, she looked at me with a serious expression, did a 180 degree turn, then ran to the other corner of her pasture towards the horse pasture. There she stood in an alarm stance, looking back once to make sure I was coming. I knew at that moment that there was something wrong and she wanted me to come back there right away. On arriving to the back pasture I found one of the horses down. I was able to get in touch with Gary and Katrina immediately, and luckily help was right around the corner. The horse got the attention she needed and all turned out well.

I was so amazed at how Tabby knew she needed to get one of her humans quickly, and how she used her body language to communicate the need. Even though her pasture was next door, she was very concerned about her neighbor. I believe Tabby to be a hero, for when help was needed immediately, no time was wasted due to Tabby’s help. I just wanted to share with you this story. Animals are truly a blessing! Thank you Tabby!
