Cute Crias is dedicated to Katrina's
sister, Debi Petteys,
who sadly lost her battle with a cancer
called Ewing's Sarcoma.
(Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroepithelial tumor is a
rare disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the bones.
The most common areas in which it occurs are the pelvis, the thigh bone
(femur), the upper arm bone (humerus), and the ribs. Ewing's
sarcoma/primitive neuroepithelial tumor most frequently occurs in
teenagers.)

The Butterfly
By: Debi Petteys
I have the time for you now,
I have the time for you now,
On the other side are you dreaming?
Are the visions cast aside taking form?
In the cocoon of a dream,
Everything's just as it seems.
Dry your wings in the light,
Stretch the colors, then take flight.
Come to the clouds find me here,
Every one distant yet clear.
Light upon my hand,
In the paint upon your wings, I will
blend.
I have the time for you now,
I have the time for you now,
On the other side are you dreaming?
Are the visions cast aside taking form?

Indian Summer
By: Debi Petteys
Only the memory lingers,
A cool shimmer of light
On the pond of an Indian summer.
Your letter surfaced like a breath
Of air along your way.
You were in Austria skiing.
Perhaps now you're in London.
There's a whole world out there for you to
see.
On the pond I row the rowboat out
And let it drift, taking me nowhere.
Gliding on this quiet pond,
There is a whole world to see.

Debi

By: Debi Petteys
I have rediscovered my reasons for
writing again.
It is not to get a volume of poems
published to sit on some
Dusty shelf and await an eager reading
once every ten years.
It is not to make myself immortal and yet
forgotten in the present tense.
I have begun writing again from my heart
in an attempt to understand,
To regain a delicate communication with
the outside world,
An attempt to enter the subconscious
And awaken the sleeping awareness that
lives in each of us.
I write because I have hope, for the world,
That things could be better
If each of us listened to those inner voices within us,
Finding our own reasons for our existence,
Set to bring forth our best in all that we do.
For there must be a reason why I am here
And each of us has a purpose.
We have only to find out what it is and follow those inner voices.
We have to listen to that those inner
voices are saying to us!
*Bold section above is engraved
on Debi's gravestone,
as is a picture of her horse "Cody's
Golden Revelation",
her dog "Relska", our parents home and
our pond.

GRAMMA*
By: Debi Petteys
*A
poem dedicated to our Grandmother, Lois Vandygriff, and also our pony Flicka,
a very spirited dapple grey Shetland pony that Debi trained when she was
young….
.pastured "down in
back", next to the Mourning Kill creek.
Follow me to the field
Down in back
where the ponies graze
I'll show you to her spirit,
Running from the slightest of sounds
Then looking wildly behind.
She is there in the flow
Of a mane that cleaves to the body,
Never leaving, yet loose on a breeze.
Rising to sip of the Morning Kill
Her greys are dappled sun across the
water.
She springs music to my inner ear.
Replenishing my spirit,
I watch her as she takes my pony with her.

Angel is a very special animal named after
Katrina's mom, June Petteys, who recently lost her courageous battle with
cancer. Katrina had the following to say about this beautiful cria,
"Angel is a constant reminder of my mom....full of pizzazz and spunk,
great strength, and regal beauty. She
is very friendly and offers unconditional love to everyone, just as
my Mom did..." Below are some pictures taken of Katrina with Angel.
