Woolly Llama Whisperers

4-H Club

BAL A WHIST-O-KAT, Katrina & Gary Capasso

It's a great time to visit the farm with warm weather and beautiful babies on the way!

Dakota Ridge Farm was established in 1990 when we obtained our first llama, Dakota, as a wedding present from Gary to Katrina.  Since then, many more of these regal, magical and mystical creatures have arrived.

Located in beautiful upstate New York, just south of Saratoga Springs, Dakota Ridge Farm is situated on 42 acres of woods, creek side, ponds and pastures.    We also offer farm tours and educational visits.

Katrina established the 4-H Club "The Woolly Llama Whisperers" and brought llamas into the Saratoga County Fair for the first time in the early 1990's.

We can’t say enough about what our venture into the llama industry has done for us. Llamas display a serenity and dignity that is regal, quiet, stress relieving, and awe-inspiring to say the least. What began as a hobby has provided immeasurable joy to us and our family of boarders.

From our own herd of over 30 llamas, we offer animals that will fill a variety of purposes. You may be looking for a lovable companion, a show animal, a pack animal, a guard, or a source of exquisite fiber. Having carefully bred the best to the best for almost 20 years, we have produced a collection of top quality llamas. Many of our llamas come from the famous Berry Acres Llamas (BAL) and they raised very elegant, large, conformationally correct llamas that were consistently winners in the show rings across the country.

Our doors are always open (RSVP please) to visitors, so come by and share our joy in raising llamas. We have always been here helping new owners and it is a pleasure for us.

Dakota Ridge Farm is featured in New York State's "I Right-click here to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, Outlook prevented automatic download of this picture from the Internet. NY" Group Travel Guide.  Explore nature's beauty with a llama - a fun-filled time for the entire family!

TOURS:

Cost is $7.00 per person.  Come and visit over 60 llamas, the horses, and see the farm. You will get hands-on with the llamas and we are also willing to take a llama out for you to walk and pet.  The llamas are very gentle, and even though they may not know you that well, they are easy to lead and take for a short walk.  The tour will most likely last about 1/2 hour long, but, you are welcome to stay longer and hang out with the animals afterwards.  Group tours available with a discounted rate.

RSVP for the tours please: email llamawhisp@aol.com.

HIKES:

The cost of the day hike is $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for children 15 years and under.  On the hike you can lead your “own” rented llama and stop and eat lunch on the trail (or back at the farm if that is preferred).  You will need to bring your lunch with you and wear comfortable shoes or boots (no open-toed shoes).   After the hike you may tour the farm and see the llamas, horses and baby llamas (crias) if we have any at that time.

RSVP for the hike please: email llamawhisp@aol.com.

Please visit our Cute Crias page, dedicated to Katrina's sister, Debi Petteys.

Katrina has had lots of fun working with Dan & Dale Goodyear of Berry Acres Llamas and enjoyed grooming and showing for them.  Click here for more info.
